Root Jesse Window (Gausson)
The Root Jesse window in the Catholic Chapel of St-Nicolas in La Chapelle, a district of the French commune of Gausson in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region , was created in the 16th century. The stained glass window was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1974 as Monument historique .
The central window in the choir was created by an unknown workshop. Only one fragment of the representation of the root of Jesse has survived: King Manasseh and the prophet Ezekiel . The wife of the founder René de Boisboissel, Péronnelle de Plœuc (1520–1553), and the coat of arms is also still there.
The root of Jesse is a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is represented in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse .
