Building description

The existing structure of St. Anne's Church was built around 1200 from quarry stone masonry . The church tower has 1.5 meter thick walls with narrow window openings, which suggests that it was used as a fortified church . It was not until 1868 that the massive masonry tower was opened to the inside of the church. The interior of the church is kept simple. The walls have a white clay plaster. One of the two bells is from 1468. The other was cast around 1250 and is one of the oldest church bells in Lower Saxony.

history

The St. Anne's Church may have had a previous building from the 12th century, which is said to have been a fortified church at an elevated point in the lowland of the Aller . The church was first mentioned in a document in 1302 in a document from those von Bartensleben , who held the patronage of the church. It tells of a Hildebrandus , pastor de heslinghe .

State of St. Anne's Church after the renovation in 2013

During the Thirty Years' War , the church suffered severe damage from a fire, which destroyed the north wall of the nave. In 1661 it was rebuilt with enlarged windows under the direction of an Oebisfeld carpenter. Another building change was made in 1868 on behalf of Countess Ann von der Schulenburg , who among other things had the entrance moved to the west. In 1959/60 a renovation was carried out by the architect Frank D. Hemmer , during which the church was restored to its original shape with the relocation of the entrance to the north. The renovated church was consecrated on March 25, 1961.

In 1963 the St. Anne's day-care center was founded in the Hellwinkel district , where the parish hall and the parish office are also located. The previous St. Anne's congregation has been a member of the Evangelical Lutheran city parish since 2006.

In the course of a facade renovation in 2013, large parts of the church were covered with a light-colored plaster, so that the rubble stones can no longer be seen.
