history

From 1865 to 1869, King George V and Queen Maria had the St. Georg Maria Church built on the site of the demolished Fleckenkirche St. Georg and the old Romanesque monastery church , consecrated to the Virgin Mary in 1223 . Conrad Wilhelm Hase built it.

architecture

Porphyry rock is the building material for the walls, supplemented by dolomite rock for special features, e.g. B. Sills and gargoyles from the area. The interior was renovated in 2018.

The square church tower is 55 meters high and has five bells and two more to strike the clock.

Furnishing

Luther wedding

In the interior there is the crucifix from the year 1350 from the former monastery church, as well as the carved choir stalls . The font comes from the time of the builder.

The stained glass windows with the proclamation of the birth of Jesus and the Luther wedding of Wilhelm Mezees in the north aisle were donated by the Leipzig pharmacist Wilhelm Schwabe in the 19th century. After the political change , the stained glass in Hanover was restored.

In 2003, warm air heating was installed for 38,000 euros.
