The Sankt-Nicolai-Kirche is a Protestant church in the town of Kalbe (Milde) in Saxony-Anhalt .

The church is located in the center of Kalbe (Milde) in the street Stege and belongs to the parish area Kalbe-Kakerbeck of the parish of Salzwedel of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Architecture and history

The core of the Nicolaikirche, built today from field and limestone, goes back to the Romanesque period . The west cross tower, which dates back to the end of the 12th century, has been preserved from the original field stone building. The tower is equipped with a gable roof covered and a roof turret crowned.

Around 1400, a Marienkapelle was added, which today forms the southern cross arm of the church, which is now on a cross-shaped floor plan. Between 1569 and 1573 there was an extension to the east. In 1754/55 a major renovation took place. With the addition of the northern arm of the cross, the cross shape was created. At the same time, the wall height of the south arm was adjusted to the nave. A two-storey sacristy was built on the south side of the rectangular choir . The openings in the church building were designed in the Baroque style.

In the years 1878, 1933 and 1965 the building was repaired.

A niche portal from the late Gothic period on the east side, which is now walled up, is remarkable . It is tiered using brick bead profiles.

The interior of the church is spanned by a flat ceiling resting on a cove . In the crossing the haunch is damaged. There are galleries in the arms of the cross. The organ gallery and two glazed manor boxes with chimney niches are located in the choir, the latter on the west side. From the sacristy ago it has access to the polygonal executed pulpit . It dates from the beginning of the 17th century and is designed in the Renaissance style. She carries paintings depicting the Annunciation, the birth of Christ, the crucifixion, the resurrection and the ascension. A baptism made as a round chalice also dates from the Renaissance, but already from the middle of the 16th century.

The church is registered as a monument in the local monument register under registration number 094 97854 .
