St. Severi Church

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Severi Church is in the Möschlitz district of the city of Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

history

In 1820 and 1875, large fires raged in Möschlitz, which also affected the church.

In 1821 the church was rebuilt. Remnants of the wall from the previous church are only in the apse . Due to a lack of money, inferior material was used in some cases, which had to be replaced after a few decades.

In 1875 the previous building of the current church fell victim to the fire; only the tower was preserved through both fires.

The church interior is so high that the woodwork of the roof structure is exposed. The processed beams that emerged in this way were later painted over in white.

Galleries , church stalls , pulpit , altar and baptismal font are color-matched to the room. The altar window from 1877 shows the resurrection . The organ with thirteen registers was built in 1878 by Richard Kreutzbach from Borna . Three bells from 1920 hang in the tower.

A stele by Friedrich Popp with Christ carrying the cross stands in the entrance area as a memorial for the victims of the world wars .
