Kirchardt has been predominantly evangelical since the Reformation . A larger Catholic community only formed at the beginning of the 19th century and built its own church in the center of the village in 1810. As patron of the church from 1810 was elected the Holy Giles , who had already been pre-Reformation saint of the old village church. The Catholic community grew steadily over the course of time and, with the influx of displaced persons and refugees, experienced an immense expansion since the Second World War , so that the old church in the center of the village became too small in the 1950s. Because of the cramped development in the center of the village and its location on the busy main road 39 , the old church could no longer be expanded, so the Catholic community decided to build a new building on the corner of Waldstrasse and Zeppelinstrasse.

The new church was built in 1960/61 and received two other patrons in addition to the previous patron Egidius, namely Pope Pius X and Klemens Maria Hofbauer . The new building was consecrated on November 26, 1961 by Dean August Breuning and on May 26, 1963 by Archbishop Hermann Schäufele . After the completion of the new building, the old Catholic church in the center of the village was demolished in 1966, and in its place is now the parking lot of a retail store. In 1972 a new Catholic parish hall was also built.

The Catholic parish in the Kirchardt district of Bockschaft , formerly a branch of the parish in Richen , was changed to Kirchardt on January 1, 1968. On October 1, 1978, the Catholic parish of the Berwangen district , which previously belonged to Gemmingen , followed, making all Catholics in Kirchardt and its districts part of the Agidius parish.
