In 1954, many German emigrants were settled in St. Albans. The resettlers could indicate where they wanted to work in Australia. Many hamburgers z. B. wanted Melbourne because they connected the port with their home.
They received a plot of approx. 1000 m² in St. Albans from the Australian state. First a wooden house was built, which was enlarged over the years and provided with facing bricks. The resettlers had committed to work in Australia for at least two years.
St. Albans developed into a suburb with national shops such as German butchers and bakers, banks and shopping centers etc. were established.
With increasing prosperity, many emigrants left St. Albans; the increase in the value of the land, which in the meantime often had spacious gardens, had grown considerably over the years.
