history

Around 1469/70 Stralsund's mayor Otto Voge donated a house for sisters. A first chapel was consecrated on May 13, 1470 by the Schwerin bishop Werner . The founder was buried there in 1475. In the following time the monastery received further properties and donations from the citizens of Stralsund. At the beginning of the 16th century, a new chapel was built, which has been preserved to this day.

In 1560 the monastery received larger land from the dissolved Brigitten monastery and was renamed St. Annen and Brigitten . At that time, poor widows and unmarried women lived there. In 1840/42 repair work took place in the ailing chapel. In 1842 an organ was inaugurated by Carl August Buchholz . From 1948 to 1988 the chapel was used by the New Apostolic congregation in Stralsund.

In the years 2003 to 2004 and 2005 to 2008 the building complex was extensively renovated in several stages. Since then, the former monastery buildings have housed part of the city administration. The chapel is used as a function room and for weddings and can be visited.
