Otto Voge (* 1419 ; † August 22, 1475 in Stralsund ) was a German politician. He was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund for 27 years .

Voge was born as the son of Mayor Nikolaus Voge and thus belonged to an old Stralsund family that has been in the council since 1313.

Otto Voge had been a member of the Stralsund council since 1432. He was elected mayor in 1443 and made great contributions to the administration and fortification of the city. He mediated in the inheritance dispute between Wartislaw IX. and Mecklenburg and enforced the “Golden Privilege” in 1452 with the Pomeranian Duke, as the sovereign of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .

A conspiracy of Wartislaw IX. when he was deposed in 1453, Voge became known, whereupon he accused the duke and his bailiff Raven Barnekow of conspiracy in the assembled state parliament . Since Stralsund was responsible for the offenses committed here, he had Barnekow locked up and executed after the conviction. The Duke and the Barnekow family, but also the three Hanseatic cities of Anklam , Greifswald (especially Mayor Heinrich Rubenow ) and Demmin , opposed this decision by Voges, which also made the change of sovereignty appear conceivable in accordance with the privileges granted.

The mood in Stralsund was directed against him because of these hostilities and a tax already introduced by Voge. He had to leave the city in 1453 and went to Kolberg , later in the care of the Danish King Christian I. He was solidified by the city council of Stralsund. Evert von Hudessem became the new mayor . The new leadership of Stralsund now supported Duke Wartislaw IX. in his war with Mecklenburg, which the Pomeranian side lost.

There were lengthy negotiations about the fate of Voges and the dispute between the Barnekow family and Stralsund, in which Emperor Friedrich III. was called. As Wartislaw IX. died and his sons, Dukes Erich II. and Wartislaw X. , attacked Stralsund merchants, Otto Voge was called back to the city on March 11, 1458 by the city council in honor and reinstated as mayor. In 1470, Duke Erich II finally brokered a comparison between the Barnekow family and the city of Stralsund.

Today Otto-Voge-Straße in Stralsund reminds of Voge .
