St. Ansgar is the Catholic church in Schneverdingen in the Heidekreis district in Lower Saxony . The church belongs to the parish of St. Maria vom St. Rosenkranz based in Soltau in the deanery of Celle of the diocese of Hildesheim . The church is named after Saint Ansgar and is located at Feldstrasse 10.

history

From 1952 a Catholic parish was formed in Schneverdingen, initially its services were held in the Protestant church.

On September 29, 1962, the foundation stone for the St. Ansgar Church was laid on a plot of land purchased by the church on which there was already a villa. On August 3, 1963, took place the consecration of the church by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen , and on 1 January 1964, the establishment of the church followed Schneverdingen. Before that, Schneverdingen belonged to the parish in Soltau.

On November 1st, 2006, St. Ansgar was again part of the Soltau parish of St. Maria vom St. Rosenkranz attached, to the catchment area of St. Ansgar belonged to about 1500 Catholics at that time.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built according to plans by the architect Philipp from Braunschweig , its shape was based on a heather sheep stable. The glass mosaic on the wall behind the altar shows Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd .
