Jens Strackeljan

Jens Strackeljan (* 1962 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German mechanical engineer and university professor at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg . He has been the rector of the university since October 2012 .

Career

After Jens Strackeljan graduated from high school in Melle , he began studying general mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Clausthal in 1981 and obtained his diploma in mechanics in 1988 . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Technical Mechanics at Clausthal University of Technology; In 1993 he received his doctorate in engineering .

In 2002 , Strackeljan completed his habilitation with venia legendi for technical mechanics, and from then on he held the professorship for solid mechanics at Clausthal University of Technology. In November 2004 he moved to the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg , where he took over the professorship for technical dynamics. In 2006 he was appointed Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; in November 2008 he became Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching at the university.

In April 2012 the University of Kiev awarded Strackeljan an honorary doctorate for “his scientific achievements in the field of dynamics and the activities to expand the Ukrainian-German faculty for mechanical engineering” . In October of the same year, Strackeljan was finally elected rector of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg to succeed Klaus Erich Pollmann .

In May 2016 Strackeljan was elected spokesman for the network of medium-sized universities . In 2017 he received the Gruson plaque of honor from the Association of German Engineers (VDI).

Non-university activities

In addition to his work at the universities in Clausthal and Magdeburg , Strackeljan is a specialist reviewer for the DAAD , co-editor of the magazine Technische Mechanik and chairman of the Magdeburg mechanical engineering association . In 2011 he was appointed an Elected Member within the Board of the International Society of Condition Monitoring .

Private life

Strackeljan is married and has four children.
