Hubert Hutsebaut

Hubert Hutsebaut (born June 24, 1947 in Lendelede , West Flanders ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Was Hutsebaut as part of a promotion of the Belgian bike manufacturer Claeys Flandria that allowed their most successful bicycle dealers, local heroes for their cycling team 1968 contract driver with the team to nominate, Flandria . Although he was formally a professional , he did not receive a full salary and mostly only contested criteria , some of which he won.

In 1971 he moved to the Goldor team. There he got the opportunity to compete in larger one-day and stage races . One of his greatest successes was the fourth stage of the Vuelta a España in 1971, which he won after a solo trip by around 10 minutes, and the surprising sprint victory of a three-man breakaway group in the semi-classic E3 Harelbeke in 1972 in front of the favorites Eddy Merckx and Walter Godefroot .

Despite these successes, Hutsebaut ended his career at the end of the 1972 season after his doctors advised him to do so due to a diagnosed iron deficiency and poor blood sugar levels . He then worked in a factory and received a higher salary than during his career as a professional cyclist.
