St. Anthony

St. Antonius is a chapel in Tönnishäuschen , a settlement in the Ahlen district of Vorhelm in the Westphalian district of Warendorf . The baroque monument belongs to the Haus Vorhelm Castle and is used as a sacred building by the Catholic parish of the Vorhelmer St. Pankratius Church .

Location and history

The Antonius Chapel is located on the outskirts of Tönnishäuschen, near an earlier intersection of two country roads - Vorhelm-Sendenhorst and Ahlen-Warendorf -; the dialectal name for the chapel, Tönnishäuschen was for the entire settlement eponymous (original name of the peasantry was Isendorf ).

The earliest evidence of the existence of a chapel at this location is from the end of the 15th century. In 1752 the chapel was rebuilt on behalf of the castle owners at the time, Count Droste zu Vischering .

Building description and equipment

entrance

The chapel is a single-aisled brick building with a gable roof; the single bell is protected by a copper helmet in a roof turret. Parts of the baroque interior have been preserved from the construction period, for example parts of the altar and the knee benches. The benches have been in the chapel since 1902 and come from Silesia . Until the 1950s, the small church building was heated with a tiled stove.

The altar was built in Darfeld in 1720 and installed in the chapel in 1874. Above the depiction of the Annunciation, in the headpiece of the altar, there is a depiction of St. Anthony of Padua (1195–1231); The actual namesake of the chapel was, as the patron saint, Saint Anthony the Hermit (251–356), who is shown on an oil painting above the entrance to the sacristy.
