History and architecture
The original building was built at the beginning of the 20th century after a bet. Clemens Graf von Westphalen auf Rixdorf made a vow in 1903: If my horse wins the race in Prague, I will have a chapel built on the outskirts of Plön . The horse won the race, after which a small wooden church was built and consecrated to the Franciscan Saint Anthony of Padua in 1905 . At the time, 25 Catholics lived in the area. The parish of St. Antonius became independent in 1911. The church got its own pastor in 1947, the number of Catholics had grown to 2,500. The wooden church was extended by a transept in the 1950s.
The wooden building was demolished in 1967 and a stone church was built instead.
The church windows were made according to plans by Frans Griesenbrock , the Antonius window shows the saint with a model of the old wooden church.
