The Church of St. Augustine was the Catholic church in Hohnstedt , a district of the district town of Northeim in Lower Saxony . Most recently it belonged to the parish of St. Jakobus the Elder in Kalefeld , in the Nörten dean's office of the Diocese of Hildesheim . The church was named after Augustine of Hippo and was located near the sports field, on the corner of Imbshäuser Weg and Unterer Drauweg. Today the nearest Catholic church is about seven kilometers away in Northeim .

history

From 1945, as a result of the Second World War , Catholic refugees and displaced persons settled in the area around Hohnstedt , which had been evangelical since the Reformation , so that the village of Hohnstedt, which previously belonged to the Northeim parish, became the seat of a newly founded parish vicarie in 1946 . In addition to Hohnstedt, the villages of Denkershausen , Eboldshausen , Edesheim , Hollenstedt , Imbshausen , Lagershausen , Stöckheim and Vogelbeck also belonged to it . In 1950/51 the St. Augustine Church was built in Hohnstedt in a barrack donated by a mining company from Datteln . On June 16, 1951, the church, which is about 126 meters above sea level , was blessed by Bishop Joseph Godehard Machens . At that time the parish vicarie Hohnstedt had a little over 1000 members.

In 1961 the newly built church of St. James the Elder was consecrated in Kalefeld ; and on October 1st of the same year the parish of the same name (Kuratiegemeinde) was founded, to which the St. Augustine Church belonged from then on.

The last service was held in St. Augustine in August 1995 and the church was profaned . The building was sold and is used profanely today.
