history
There has been no Catholic community in Northeim since the Reformation . The area belonged to the Nörten monastery parish . Railway construction and industrial operations did not bring Catholic families back to the city until the middle of the 19th century. The Catholic school was established in 1884, and construction of the church began the following year. She received the patronage of the Visitation and was Pentecost 1886 benediziert . The solemn consecration of the church was initially postponed because of the Kulturkampf and could only be carried out on September 2, 1907 by Bishop Adolf Bertram . In addition to the diocese of Hildesheim , the construction costs were raised by the Bonifatiusverein , the Ludwigs-Missionsverein and many individual donors from the entire province of Hanover . The parish of Northeim was established as early as 1894.
The church survived the Second World War undamaged. After the war it became home to the many Catholics who came to the city and the surrounding areas as displaced persons . In 1961 the community's kindergarten was opened. In 1975/76 a modern parish center with a rectory was built. Since March 1, 2004, the church has belonged to the then newly founded Nörten-Osterode deanery , previously it belonged to the Nörten deanery. In 2004 the church of St. Jakobus the Elder in Kalefeld was added to the parish , and in 2006 the church of St. Ulrich in Moringen and the former Lindau branch church Herz Jesu in Katlenburg . On July 25, 2009 the branch church in Katlenburg was profaned , on June 19, 2015 the branch church in Kalefeld.
