The Church of Saint Barbara was the Catholic church in Bad Grund , a municipality in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony . Most recently, the church belonged to the parish of St. Johannes Baptist based in Osterode am Harz , in the Nörten-Osterode deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church was named after St. Barbara of Nicomedia and was located at Danziger Straße 12. Today the nearest Catholic church is in Badenhausen, eight kilometers away .

history

Danziger Strasse was built in 1958, the foundation stone of the church was laid in 1961, and it was consecrated on December 16, 1962 by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . It served especially the Catholic expellees who had settled in Bad Grund and the surrounding area after the Second World War , but also the spa guests of Bad Grund. On January 1, 1963, the Bad Grund parish was established, and the towns of Lautenthal and Wildemann also belonged to it . On October 1, 1980, the parish was raised to a parish. As of March 1, 2004, the church belonged to the then newly founded dean's office Nörten-Osterode, previously it belonged to the dean's office in Osterode. From September 1st, 2008 the church belonged to the parish of St. Johannes Baptist in Osterode.

On February 6, 2010, the church was profaned by Bishop Norbert Trelle . The church building was sold and is to be used profanely in the future.

Architecture and equipment

The church, located about 312 meters above sea level , above the center of Bad Grund, was built according to plans by the architect Wolfgang Tschirschwitz from Braunschweig .
