St. Barbara (Hänigsen)
The Church of St. Barbara was the Catholic Church in Hänigsen , Hanover region . Most recently it belonged to the parish of St. Nikolaus , based in Burgdorf, in the Hanover deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church was named after Barbara von Nicomedien and was located at Obershagener Straße 19. The nearest Catholic churches are now around 8 km away in Burgdorf , Uetze and Wathlingen . The premises of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Petri Church in Hänigsen are also used by the local Catholics today.
history
The church, located around 45 meters above sea level , was built in 1960/61 according to plans by Josef Fehlig and consecrated by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen on November 25, 1961 . In 1985 Claus Kilian redesigned the interior . St. Barbara was a branch church of the parish of St. Matthias in Uetze . In 1996 a pastoral care unit was founded, it comprised the Catholic churches in Burgdorf, Hänigsen and Uetze. On November 1, 2006, today's parish of St. Nikolaus emerged from it .
On November 16, 2012, the church was profaned by Auxiliary Bishop Nikolaus Schwerdtfeger . In 2013 the church property was sold and most of the church inventory was given away to churches in Ukraine . One of the two bells was erected in 2014 at the roundabout at the confluence of Windmühlenstrasse / Liegnitzer Strasse / Mühlenweg, and the foundation stone followed in 2016. The statue of St. Barbara found a new place in the St. Nicholas Church in Burgdorf, the steeple with the weathercock was taken over by a family in Altmerdingsen . The church building was demolished in autumn 2013, and houses were built on the property from 2014.
