St. Benno (Türkheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Benno was a Roman Catholic chapel in Turkheim in Upper Swabia .

It was built on the basis of a vow made by Duke Maximilian Philipp of Bavaria in 1681 by Johann Schmuzer after a crack in 1680. The consecration by Auxiliary Bishop Eustachius Egolph von Westernach took place on April 4, 1684.

The rotunda, south of the village, with arched windows drawn in at the top and bottom, had a domed roof and a lower chancel with a square floor plan and a hipped roof . Inside it was decorated with stucco and had a stucco altar painted in 1682 by the painter von Wiedergeltingen . Around 1705 the altar was changed and redesigned by Johann Bergmüller . The small altarpiece with an Immaculate was painted by his son Johann Georg Bergmüller . The dome roof was changed in 1721 and the interior was restored in 1775 by master mason Johann Georg Ege . A wooden nave that was probably added later is also mentioned.

In 1807 the chapel was demolished. The figure of St. Benno is now in the parish church of the Assumption of Mary .
