St. Blasius (Hirblingen)
St. Blasius is the Catholic parish church in the Gersthofen district of Hirblingen . The church is a protected architectural monument .
architecture
The nave of the church consecrated to St. Blaise comes from the late Gothic period. It was widened southward in the 17th century. When the church was first mentioned in 1699 when ownership was transferred to the Heilig-Geist-Spital in Augsburg , the church is described as a towerless and dark, narrow corner. After the cracks of the master bricklayer Hans Georg Mozart , the church received an apsidal choir and a church tower attached to its north side in 1713 . Furthermore, the three-row nave windows were changed, the choir was stuccoed, decorated with a ceiling painting and a high altar was bought from the Augsburg cathedral , which is no longer available today. A little later, the hall building was designed with a new stucco ceiling in 1727. In 1748 the tower was given an onion dome and a new belfry. The sacristy was added to the south side of the choir in 1769. In 1852 an organ was installed by Othmar Sauter. The current furnishings in neo-baroque style with high altar and the two side altars, pulpit and paintings date from 1890 to 1895. In 1917 the Steinmeyer company built a new organ. This organ with the work number 1252 has ten registers and two manuals as well as a neo-baroque prospectus , it was overhauled in 2008. In 2009 the church received a new popular altar and ambo .
Various renovations took place in 1937, 1956 and 1976, the latter with warm air heating installed. Furthermore, the exterior of the church and tower was renovated in 1995, at the same time the former parish hall, which was used as a fire station, was converted into a parish hall. In 2006 an extensive interior renovation with protection of the roof structure was carried out.
Furnishing
At the high altar in the central niche is the late Gothic-looking wooden figure of the church patron St. Blaise from the second half of the 17th century, depicted with a bishop's cap and candle. In the side niches are the figures of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia and St. Joseph. The left side altar is dedicated to Mary, surrounded by angels, on the right altar St. Sebastian between St. Wendelin and St. Leonhard depicted.
The wooden figures in the choir date from the 17th and 18th centuries and represent Saints Gregory, Jerome, Thomas and James.
Surroundings
The church is slightly elevated east of the Schmutter above the edge of the terrace in the middle of Hirblingen. It has been bordered by the Hirblinger Friedhof to the south since 1952, on which a late medieval, listed stone cross stands next to the morgue .
