St. Cyriakus in Wiesensteig ( district of Göppingen , Baden-Württemberg ) was initially the monastery church of the Benedictine monastery Wiesensteig from the 9th century and, after its conversion, until 1803 the collegiate church of the collegiate monastery Wiesensteig. Today it is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart ( Deanery Göppingen-Geislingen ).

The works of Johann Baptist Straub , who was born in Wiesensteig , stand out from the furnishings .

Building history

Remains of a Romanesque crypt have been preserved. From the Gothic construction, the two western towers and the outer walls testify. The choir and nave were rebuilt in the 18th century.

Furnishing

The ceiling painting, which pays homage to the church patron, was created by Johann Josef Anton Huber (approx. 1778). The high altar, into which the body of Saint Sabina was transferred from Salzburg, is the work of Melchior Paulus (1719).

Works by Johann Baptist Straub are Saint Nepomuk in the Joseph Altar (dated 1739) and the crucifix in the former cross altar (approx. 1775).

Worth mentioning is the Dotzburg Mother of God from the Ulm workshop of Jörg Syrlin (approx. 1490).
