St. Dionysius , the Roman Catholic Church of the Monheim neighborhood Baumberg in Mettmann in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

St. Dionysius was originally a chapel from the 12th century that was dependent on St. Gereon in Monheim . The slender Romanesque tower, a three- story tuff stone building, built around 1230, dates back to the early days . On the top floor it has an arched frieze with buds and two double windows capitals . On the west side there is a baroque crucifixion group from the first half of the 18th century with depictions of Christ, Mary and John, which the art historian Paul Clemen described as "rough".

In 1884, the Franciscan brother Paschalis Gratze built a new three-aisled building while retaining the old tower, and in 1891 Monheim was parceled out. From 1958 to 1960 this building was replaced by a new church, again keeping the tower.

In 2018, the Church's family center suffered flood damage . As a result, extensive construction work is being undertaken at the moment to remove the water damage, and the family center is also being structurally expanded.
