St. Erasmus

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Erasmus is a listed church building in Altastenberg , a district of Winterberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

description

A precursor chapel was built in 1724. The small hall church with three window axes was built from quarry stone from 1823 to 1826 , it has a roof turret . There is a vestibule under the roof turret. Partly it is slated . An extension was made in 1913. The interior of the choir was built with bevelled corners. The wooden beam ceiling was plastered, the floors are covered with local slate. The roof, the ridge turret and the window sills were slated. The organ gallery rests on two sandstone pillars with composite capitals .

The furnishings were put together using baroque architectural parts and figures from various origins. The baroque altar was put together from older parts. On the right and left are the figures of St. Theresa and Agatha in niches. Two Gothic angels, probably from the 16th century, float under the crucifix in the middle.

The building became a cemetery chapel after a new parish church was built between 1969 and 1972, which was renovated in 1985.

Lecture cross

A lecture cross from the 12th century used to be part of the church furnishings , it is now exhibited in the Diocesan Museum Paderborn . It was made from gold-plated silver. The cross is 273 × 378 mm. At the four ends there are settings for large gemstones that are no longer there; they have been partially replaced by oak fillings. The arms of the 130 × 147 mm body are broken off. The bronze cast was chiseled on the hair and loincloth . The feet standing next to each other on a console are not nailed. An inscription was engraved above the Christ head: IeH. XPC. REX IV DEOR . On the back there are engravings of four breasts of women with angular crowns in four circles and the Lamb of God in a fifth circle .
