history

Franz Xaver Breher, pastor in Grönenbach

At the suggestion of the pastor Franz Xaver Breher from Grönenbach, the chapel was built in Gmeinschwenden in 1885. The building site with an area of 0.006 ha was donated free of charge by farmer Anton Trunzer. The bell in the tower of the chapel burst in 1904 and was cast around in Memmingen . A foundation, the “Gmeinschwenden Chapel Foundation”, was set up specifically for the construction of the chapel. This foundation was approved on January 27, 1886 by Ludwig II of Bavaria . The colored glass windows were inserted in 1910 and show the Holy Family and Francisco de Xavier.

Furnishing

The altar and the altarpiece come from the collegiate church of St. Philip and James in Bad Grönenbach. The altarpiece was created by Max Kolb in 1859. Four wooden figures are placed inside the chapel. These depict the apostles Peter , Paul , Philip and James and come from the 18th century.
