St. Fridolin (Mulhouse)
The Church of St. Fridolin ( French Église Saint-Fridolin ) is a Roman Catholic parish church ( église paroissiale) in Mulhouse . It is the largest and most important example of neo-baroque sacred architecture in Alsace .
history
In 1895 a member of the parish, Mrs. Rogg, donated a sum of money to the establishment of a representative church. The church dedicated to St. Fridolin von Säckingen (→ Fridolinskirche ) was built from 1901 to 1906 according to plans by Ludwig Becker , who consciously oriented himself towards the Fridolinsmünster for the double tower facade .
Furnishing
The furnishings come from the Munich-based painter Martin von Feuerstein (painting), the Colmar sculptor Théophile Klem (altars, pulpit, confessionals, baptismal font) and the Lucerne organ builder Friedrich Goll .
organ
Becker's own design for an organ case was not taken into account in the execution, instead an instrument was purchased in 1907 that Goll had originally made for the Benedictine monastery of the city of Delle . Today's mechanics are mostly from 1960 and the workshop of the Strasbourg master builder Curt Schwenkedel.

On the occasion of its centenary in 2006, the interior of the church was thoroughly restored. The white plastered walls had turned gray and crumbling in the meantime.
