history

The property on which the building stands belonged to the St. Georg Hospital. The hospital was founded when Bad Freienwalde was founded in the 14th century. At that time the hospital was outside the city. In 1622 the site was integrated into the urban area. A previous building was demolished in 1694 because it was in disrepair. The current building was erected in 1696 under the master builder Bernd Ringelahn. The first service was celebrated on October 30, 1698.

During the Napoleonic Wars , the church was used as a feed store from 1812 to 1814, and then as a barn. In the years 1825 to 1826 the church was renovated and the damage from its use as a barn was removed. Another renovation took place from 1848 to 1851. In 1881 the organ was installed, but it had to be rebuilt in 1895 by the Sauer company from Frankfurt (Oder) . In the same year the tower was rebuilt and the roof re-covered with slate.

In the 1930s the church was in disrepair, but a planned demolition was refused. Repairs did not begin until 1949. In 1955 the building was consecrated as a church again. When the church closed, the building became the property of the district. In 1977 it was planned to be demolished in favor of a parking lot. Activities by individual residents prevented this. From 1978 to 1986, the building was largely renovated in the evenings and at the weekend, including the construction of the half-timbering. The resulting concert hall has 140 seats and was opened on November 14, 1986.

The building

The church is located on the corner of Königstrasse and Georgenkirchstrasse. The church is oriented in an east-west direction so that the choir is located on Königstraße.

The hall church is a half-timbered construction. There is a wall plinth under the framework. On the annexes as transepts. There is a roof tower on the hipped roof. The tower is centrally located on the roof. The lower part is boarded up and carries a clock, the upper part is a Welsche hood with a lantern .

The organ from the Sauer company

The interior was redesigned as a concert hall when it was built around 1985. The chancel is now an orchestra podium. There is an organ from the Sauer company from Frankfurt (Oder). The horseshoe gallery, the ceiling paneling and other furnishings are also from this period. Under the gallery is an epitaph for Joachim Prignitz (1646 to 1704). The pulpit altar from 1696 is now in the Bliesdorf village church .
