Architecture and history

The core of the single-nave church dates back to the first quarter of the 13th century. It was built from rubble stones . To the west there is a church tower arranged across the nave. The tower is covered by a gable roof. The sound arcades of the tower are from the late Romanesque period . The ground floor of the tower is spanned by a massive vaulted concrete barrel. As a result of a fire, the church was rebuilt or rebuilt in 1520. In 1692 the nave was rebuilt. Two narrow Gothic windows have been preserved on the east side of the nave .

The interior of the nave has a wooden barrel ceiling. The horseshoe gallery in the ship is two-story on the west side. The altarpiece dates from 1885 and shows a crucifixion scene. The font is made of sandstone in the form of a chalice and dates back to 1528.

A sandstone epitaph shows Mr. zu Morl, knight Roloff Röder, who died in 1586, as a relief figure clad in armor.

There are two bronze bells and a mechanical clockwork in the tower. The small bell was cast by the Schilling company from Apolda in 1927. It was renovated at the beginning of 2016 and provided with a new yoke and an electric bell. The bell weighs about 180 kilograms. The current big bell was built in the middle of the 15th century. It is also from here that the striking hour lies. This bell is rung by hand. Originally there was a third bronze bell, but one bell fell victim to the war. The mechanical tower clockwork has been renovated.
