Chapel of St. George

The St. Georg Catholic Chapel is a listed building in Altenmellrich , a district of Anröchte in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The chapel is the center of the village. The previous chapel was built in 1716. The current building is a four-bay , plastered quarry stone hall . It was built in 1919 from green sandstone with corner blocks. The drafted choir closes on three sides . A curved hood was placed on the west tower . The baroque altar from 1742 is remarkable. The altar was extensively restored in 1967 and placed under monument protection. In 1973 the chapel was renovated. The bell cage was renewed and a second bell was purchased in 1978.
