The branch church of St. Georg is a Roman Catholic church on a meadow slope St. Georgen above Tösens and south below Serfaus in the municipality of Serfaus in Tyrol .

history

The church was essentially Romanesque and was mentioned in a document in 1429. Its current appearance is late Gothic and dates from the second half of the 15th century; the choir was consecrated in 1497.

Building description

The choir with a polygonal end is located on the north side in the line of the nave wall and is drawn in on the south side. The low south tower is set slightly into the church and has a wooden bell storey under a gable roof. On the north side of the nave is a ridge-vaulted chapel extension from the 17th century with a crucifix from the 17th century. The ogival west portal is grooved twice. On the south facade there is a wall painting of St. Christophorus from the beginning of the 16th century.

The nave has a flat wooden coffered ceiling from the 16th century, the two-bay choir with a 3/8-way end has a ribbed vault on circular services, both of which are connected by a pointed, beveled triumphal arch. On the east wall is the name 1496 , underneath there are red chalk drawings with the name 1513 . The choir and the south wall of the nave have two-lane tracery windows. The late Gothic complete painting of the nave is marked with the painting made max maller by innspruck in 1482 and is attributed to the painter Marx Donauer. The wall painting shows on the triumphal arch wall St. Apollonia , Annunciation, Christ on the Mount of Olives and on a covered altar niche the murder of children in Bethlehem, on the south wall the martyrdom of St. Sebastian, the dragon fight of St. George, St. Christophorus, on the west wall and the north wall in a cycle of 14 pictures the Passion. Below the picture fields are painted inscriptions and a base band with apostles' marks, apostle half-figures and female saints.

The high altar with a reliquary was created by the carpenter Martin Stämer around 1680. The statues of Saints George and Sebastian are attributed to the sculptor Klemens Sattler. The extract shows a figure of Maria Immaculata around 1700 and is attributed to the circle of the sculptor Andreas Thamasch or the sculptor Andreas Kölle . The antependium with the depiction of the Pentecostal miracle was created by Kaspar Jele in 1831 .

The late Gothic winged altar around 1500 contains the figures of Saint Anne , Joachim and Sebastian in the shrine , the wings outside Saint Bartholomew and Peter, inside the martyrdom of Ursula, the finding of the cross of Helena, in the predella Veronica with a cloth.

The pulpit dates from the 17th century. The early baroque triumphal arch cross was created by Jörg Schwarz in 1630. The lecture cross is from the 17th century. Two lecture poles with chandelier angels are labeled JK 1617 .

The original reliquary in the Tyrolean State Museum

In a barred niche on the choir wall there was once a reliquary from around 1270 to 1280; the original has been in the Tyrolean State Museum since 1903 . A copy of the shrine by Alois Norer (1876–1951) has been exhibited in the Serfaus Parish Museum since 2014.
