History and equipment

1929 to 1956

After the loss of the Kölner Hütte in the Dolomites as a result of the First World War was sealed in 1923 , a new opportunity was sought for the section's skiers. So the shell of the Comperdellhütte of the DAV section Stuttgart was acquired . For the time, the hut was comfortable accommodation with electricity and hot and cold running water. It was also located in an ideal ski area, which prompted local ski pioneers to predict a great future for the location as a ski resort, which has been confirmed over the years. The house was finally inaugurated on September 1, 1929. On the occasion of this, the city of Cologne gave an iron sign that hangs on the east side of the house to this day. Since the tenants were confronted with more visitors than beds in the first few years despite the arduous ascent (a road to Serfaus was only built in 1935), the Rhineland-Cologne section was already looking at expansion plans in 1932. However, these were initially rejected. Instead, it remained with maintenance work and improvements in the sanitary area. A few years after the house was completed, the section also acquired a hut near the Cologne house that had previously belonged to the Austrian tourist club, Innsbruck branch. It became the Little Cologne House . Fortunately, the Cologne house was spared major damage during the Second World War . For the next eleven years, the house was under trust management.

1956 to 1968

In 1956 the DAV section Rhineland-Cologne regained the house. This prompted the section to make new investments. At the same time, a cable car company was planning to build a large gondola, the mountain station of which was to be located just above the Cologne building. The track was finally completed in 1959. Since winter sports were expanding in Serfaus, an expansion or even a new building of the house nearby was discussed again. In the end, however, there was a general overhaul of the house. New sanitary facilities, a modern sewage treatment plant, mattress stores and a self-catering room were built. Since these rooms were on the ground floor and could be expanded, the sun terrace was enlarged at the same time. The work ended in 1968.

1968 to 1983

The plans to expand the Cologne house were finally implemented in 1982. On June 18, 1983, the inauguration of the extension took place. In addition to the old structure, a wing was added at right angles to the north side.

1983 until today

Today the Cologne house is a popular meeting point in both summer and winter. For the 75th anniversary it was modernized and expanded in 2004, and the sanitary facilities were modernized . In the 2013 summer season, the Cologne house remained closed due to further renovation work, which consisted of moving the kitchen further back in order to enlarge the catering area. The house has a terrace with panoramic views and a WLAN access point .
