Mount Malindang National Park

The Mount Malindang National Park on the Philippine island of Mindanao was proclaimed a national park and water protection area on June 19, 1971 with the entry into force of Republic Act 6266 . The national park covers 53,262 hectares and is similar to a biosphere reserve . The protected forest area is about 33,000 hectares. The remaining 20,000 hectares are used as a sub-economic zone.

geology

The elevation profile of Mt. Malindang National Park rises from 600 meters to 2,404 meters above mean sea level. The mountain range of Mt. Malindang, which reaches a height of 2402 meters, is believed to have been formed by a series of volcanic eruptions in prehistoric times, but precise research and dating are still pending. Several indicators that speak for a volcanic past are the 6 hectare crater lake Lake Duminagat and two areas of more than 20 hectares with high rock walls, cinder cones, arched structures and two hot sulfur springs.

The entire national park is criss-crossed by several canyons and gorges, plus a large number of waterfalls, crater lakes and dense primeval forests. They let the national park appear in a varied scenery. The Mt. Malindang Nature Park straddles the provinces of Misamis Occidental , Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur .

fauna and Flora

The forest vegetation consists of very different animal species and plants. The tree population is dominated by the wing fruit family . Many different species of plants and animals are found, including rare ones such as the Philippine eagle ( Pithecophaga jefferyi ), hornbills ( Buceros hydrocorax ), tarsier ( Tarsius philippinensis ), giant gliders ( Cynocephalus volans ), and the Bartlett's dagger ( Gallicolumba criniger ). Other important populations of mammals such as the Philippine deer, wild boar, long-tailed macaque, palm and civet cat are also found. The park is also known to be home to six species of amphibians, three species of reptiles, 67 species of birds (including the apolori ) and 25 species of mammals that are endemic to the national park. Other significant species found in the park include mammals such as the Philippines deer, wild boar, crab-eating macaque, and civet cats . The species Crocidura grandis , which belongs to the genus of the white-toothed shrew, occurs only in the area of the Malindang Mountains.

Lake Duminagat is a crater lake and named after its clear water. It is located in a thick forest and is home to wildlife such as deer, monkeys and wild boars.
