St. Gertraud is a church in the Innstadt district of Passau near the banks of the Inn . It has been the seat of the Roman Catholic parish of Passau-Innstadt since 1787 , to which the current branch church of St. Severin also belongs.

description

The St. Gertraud Church was originally the hospital church of the St. Gertraud Hospital founded in 1301.

In 1787 the seat of the parish in the city center was moved from St. Severin to St. Gertraud, since 1968 St. Gertraud has also been an official parish church . However, the parish of Passau-Innstadt retained the patronage of St. Severin.

The St. Gertraud Church suffered severe damage in the town fire in 1809 and was rebuilt in the classicism style in 1815/1816 by Augustin Allgeyer and the sculptor Christian Jorhan the Younger .

Noteworthy are the so-called Severin's Madonna , a late Gothic carving from 1450, the Gothic figure of St. Severin and the oil portrait Adoration of the Shepherds by Jan Cossiers from 1630. The other furnishings are modern and are by Leopold Hafner .
