Christian Jorhan the Younger (born August 6, 1758 in Landshut ; buried July 14, 1844 in Passau ) was a sculptor of western-oriented classicism .

biography

Born in Landshut in 1758, he had inherited the sculptural talent of his father Christian Jorhan (the elder) . After attending the Jesuit high school in Landshut until it was closed in 1773, he trained in his father's workshop. When he was 18, he worked as a journeyman with Joseph Deutschmann in Passau. The journeyman journey also led him to Thaddäus Kronenbitter in Neuburg an der Donau, to Franz Zauner in Vienna and finally to Ignaz Ingerl, the exceptionally fine Augsburg sculptor of early classicism. 1781 journey to France, first stay in Strasbourg, then Delle and Paris. Attended the academy in Dijon and Besançon. 1788 stay in Langres and Thann in Alsace. After his return to Bavaria, he found his place of work in Passau by marrying the sculptor's daughter Rosalie Lechthaler on July 27, 1794 and was given the master's rights.
