The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Jakobus is the village church of Irmelshausen , a district of Höchheim in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . The church is one of the architectural monuments of Höchheim and is registered under the number D-6-73-134-23 in the Bavarian list of monuments . The parish belongs to the parish of Höchheim - Irmelshausen - Rothausen in the deanery Bad Neustadt an der Saale .

history

The Reformation was introduced in Irmelshausen in 1540. The church, which was under the patronage of the Bibra family , was built between 1471 and 1518. The parapet of the church tower was added in 1575 and its roof was put on in 1712.

description

The eastern church tower, a choir tower , has a tapered upper floor and a French dome with a double lantern. The sound windows are ogival . The choir room in the basement has a ribbed vault and pointed arched windows with tracery on the east and south sides. The sacristy with a pent roof is built on the north side. The nave is covered with a half- hip roof. Its irregularly spaced windows have different shapes. The ceiling is a barrel vault made of wood. There is a stair tower on the western facade.

Furnishing

On the altar rests an essay with a painting of the Last Supper and a crucifixion group . The crucifix inside is decorated with medallions of the four evangelists . The crucifixion is also shown in the window behind . In the vault you can see frescoes of the evangelists. On the pulpit to the left of the choir arch , paintings of the evangelists are again attached. To the right of the choir arch is the manor's box under the gallery . The gallery is two-story and takes up all three walls of the nave. The organ is set up on the western wall. There are 15 tombs of the Bibra family in the church.
