St. Johann is part of the Albersweiler community in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

St. Johann is located on the north-eastern edge of the settlement area of ​​Albersweiler and has largely grown together structurally with the core town. The Haardt , as the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest is called, joins to the north and vineyards of the Palatinate wine-growing region to the east . history

In 985 St. Johann was the victim of the Sali church robbery . In the early modern times, the Counts of Löwenstein-Scharfeneck were local lords. Until the end of the 18th century, Sankt Johann was the main town of the Scharfeneck rule . In 1798 the place was annexed to France .
