St. Johannes Evangelist (Menzel)
The Catholic Chapel of St. Johannes Evangelist is a listed church building in Menzel , a district of Rüthen in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The previous church was first mentioned in 1486 when the altar was consecrated. The new building was consecrated in 1894 . The building is a three-bay hall with a retracted choir closed on three sides . The neo-Gothic building was plastered. The sacristy is on the south side. The west tower one was articulated helmet mounted. The ribbed vault inside rests on pillars and offset shield arches .
Furnishing
- The altarpiece comes from the time the chapel was built.
- The organ was built in 1896 by Johannes Speith .
- The double Madonna dates from around 1700.
- The seven life-size wooden holy figures from the mid-18th century were taken over from the previous chapel.
