St. John the Baptist in Oppolding in the district of Erding ( Upper Bavaria ) is a church with Rococo furnishings. The stucco work is the main work of Johann Anton Pader , the so-called Master of Oppolding . The pulpit in particular is an outstanding Rococo work of art in this region.

Along with Hörgerdorf and Eschlbach , the church is one of the three churches with rococo furnishings in the Erding district, all of which are located five kilometers from each other.

Building

In 1764, the Erdingen city mason, Johann Baptist Lethner, built the church as a hall . The building has a retracted semicircular choir with three-pass- shaped blind windows in the cornice zone, a two-storey sacristy to the south of the choir and is structured by circumferential pilaster strips and rectangular panels. On the west tower with onion dome there are the typical Lethner round arch niches with light slits.

Furnishing

Stucco pulpit

The stucco pulpit from 1765 is the masterpiece of Johann Anton Pader . The staircase parapet and the basket are asymmetrically curved and decorated with rocailles , and the sound cover is replaced by a volute-like rocaille crown. According to A. Henle, an influence from Ignaz Günther can be assumed.

altar

The high altar is a staggered, high column structure that Mathias Fackler created from Dorfen . Franz Xaver Zellner from Erding used marbling in a high degree of perfection, as it is rarely found anywhere else. Seen from a distance, Zellner shows dark rock that gives a rugged impression. On closer inspection it can be seen that architectures, landscapes, figures and ships are depicted in the cavities of the rock formations.

renovation

During the last renovation in 1955, Josef Blatner discovered the signature JAP | D , with which the master of Oppolding could be identified as Johann Anton Pader.
