Josef Blatner

Josef Blatner , also Joseph Blatner , (born August 24, 1895 in Munich ; † August 28, 1987 there ) was a German art historian and monument conservator .

Life

In 1914 he graduated from the Realgymnasium. He then studied for the profession of drawing teacher at the Technical University , the School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich until he graduated in 1921. He then worked as a teacher for art education at various schools in Bavaria. a. in Hof, from 1935 at the Klenzeschule (Oberrealschule III) in Munich and was appointed professor in 1940 . In addition, he studied art history at the University of Munich from 1921 to 1925 , with his main interest in baroque art . He did not complete a dissertation on the Rococo sculptors in Lower Bavaria .

In 1945 he became an employee of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , first in Middle Franconia , then as a consultant for Upper Bavaria . He retired on September 1, 1960. After the Second World War he campaigned for the preservation of numerous buildings in Munich and was responsible for the restoration of numerous churches in Upper Bavaria.

Since joining in 1918, he has been involved in the Munich Antiquities Association , since 1965 as its 1st chairman.

He put together an extensive collection of antiques of all kinds, metalwork, ceramics, sculptures, reverse glass paintings, furniture, clocks and much more. In 1985 he bequeathed his collection of around 2100 objects to the Archdiocese of Munich . This is now in the Diocesan Museum Freising
