St. Josef (Mettlach-Keuchingen)
The Church of St. Josef was a Roman Catholic parish church of the Trier diocese in Mettlach in the Saarland . It was located in Keuchingen on the western side of the Saar and should not be confused with the neo-Gothic St. Joseph Chapel on the premises of the Villeroy & Boch company .
history
With the expansion of the community Mettlach after the Second World War with new settlements also in the local area Keuchingen, the need for an own parish church as a local pastoral center grew strongly. The parish church of St. Joseph in Lutwinus settlement in Keuchingen was pastor Heinrich in the years 1965 to 1967 and by the plans of architects Krauser Kiwitter made on the basis of the considerable efforts of Kimmlingen Saarbrücken built and on 4 May in 1965 by Bishop Carl Schmidt consecrated .
After the necessary renovation work on the building could no longer be carried out by the parish in the early 2000s, the decision was made to give up the parish church. On August 30, 2004, the last service took place in St. Josef, during which the church was profaned. From December 2005 the church building was torn down. Today there are private houses on the property.
Building description
The concrete tower, visible from afar, had a triangular floor plan and was free-standing in front of the church building. In its upper third, the triangular tower cage of the bell chamber, divided into four segments, protruded. The church building itself was built on a kite-shaped floor plan and the outside was simply designed. The two sloping walls on the west side of the church were dissolved into large window facades. The highest point of the copper-clad roof was in the corner above the choir.
organ
The organ was located on the gallery on the back wall of the church and was built in 1969 by the company Gebr. Späth Orgelbau from Ennetach and has been in the Catholic parish church of St. Michael in Völklingen since 2006 . The instrument has 14 registers on two manuals and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical. The arrangement of the organ is as follows:

Shortly before the church was demolished, the building was documented in detail by local history researcher Thomas Steuer. The first extensive illustrated book with over 200 pages was published in 2009; the second volume followed in 2013.
