history

The first plans to build a church in Schönderling were made around 1900. Before that, the local farms had taken over the bells .

Already in 1895 a teacher's daughter donated 6,000 marks in the village , but the church building project could only be put into practice in the 1930s. From the plans in question, that of the Würzburg architect Eugen Altenhöfer was selected. With the laying of the foundation stone on August 16, 1931, construction work began under Stefan Kronewald (Schondra). The inauguration took place on October 23, 1932 by the Würzburg bishop Matthias Ehrenfried .

In 1937 two side altars with an image of Mary and an image of Joseph were erected. After the bells had to be delivered in World War II , the Grüninger company in Neu-Ulm installed new bells in 1949. In 1962 the church received stations of the cross created by Bernhard Wohling from Kevelaer . In 1972 the two side altars were removed; at the same time the main altar was moved into the center as a free altar . Today's organ , created by the Norbert Krieger company from Retzbach , was built in 1989.
