The Catholic parish church of St. Katharina is a listed church building in Kohlscheid , a district of Herzogenrath in the Aachen city region ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The classicistic brick building with a gabled west facade was built from 1831 to 1838 according to designs by the mine director Schümmer. The west tower connects to the building, the choir is closed on five sides. The sandstone facing, the plastering and the sculptural decoration of the west facade date from the beginning of the 20th century. The airy, pseudo-basilical interior has three aisles. A barrel vault rests over strong Tuscan columns in the central nave . Groin vaults were drawn into the side aisles .

Furnishing

  • The high altar , the organ gallery and two confessionals date from the construction period.
  • The figure meidaillons in the central nave are from the beginning of the 20th century.
