The Kilian's Church in Atzhausen

The Catholic branch church of St. Kilian (formerly St. Kilian, Kolonat and Totnan ) is the only church in Kleinlangheim 's Atzhausen district in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . It is located on Düllstadter Straße in the middle of the village.

history

For a long time Atzhausen was closely connected with the neighboring Kleinlangheim. There sat the pastors who also visited the village. Around 1530, the then Kleinlangheim village lord, Margrave Georg von Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach , began to introduce the Reformation in his areas, and Atzhausen also became Lutheran. This only changed with the re-parish to Wiesentheid on June 26, 1680. The Wiesentheid landlord Johann Otto von Dernbach pushed the Counter-Reformation forward.

In 1748 a separate church was built in Atzhausen, which is now again Catholic. The two-story building contained a small prayer room on the ground floor , while a classroom and the teacher's apartment were located on the upper floor. It was not until 1778 that the prayer room began to be converted into a real chapel, and around 1785 the branch church was consecrated by the Wiesentheid pastor Paul Anton Hiereth. At the beginning of the 19th century, the teacher's apartment was also moved out of the building.

In 1871 the Atzhausen Chapel was subordinated to the Franconian Apostles Kilian , Kolonat and Totnan . Today it is only dedicated to St. Kilian. A comprehensive exterior renovation took place in 1935. On November 15, 1950, the parish of Atzhausen came to the parish of Stadtschwarzach . Further renovation measures were a facade renovation in 1967, an interior renovation in 1989 and an exterior renovation in 1994.

architecture

The Kilian's Church presents itself as a simple mansard roof building . It is reminiscent of the town hall in nearby Wiesentheid . The access to the former teacher's apartment is made possible by a round stair tower that was attached to the building. An inscription on this tower refers to the year of construction and reads "1748 IMD Schultheis". The building is divided by three to two window axes with rectangular windows. A six-sided dome with a lantern completes the building as a roof turret . Inside, a flat ceiling with a hollow was stuccoed with the " IHS " monogram.

Bells

The church at the beginning of the 20th century

There is a two-part bell in the roof turret of the Kilian's Church . The larger bell was created in 1950, and an older bell was probably melted down during World War II . The Czudnochowsky bell foundry from Erding created the so-called Kilians bell and decorated it with the inscription “Dedicated to the church patron St. Kilian. Atzhausen 1950 ". The second bell, which was created in 1922, is older.

Interior

The center of the church interior is the two-column high altar. Its structure with the vine leaf ornament typical of Franconia dates from the 18th century. A winged putti appears between the gables of the altar. The sheet was created by the Munich artist Max Bernatz in 1893. It shows the Holy Family. The tabernacle was only acquired in the first half of the 20th century. The Altarmensa has served as a popular altar since the Second Vatican Council .

The oldest piece inside the branch church is a small figure of Our Lady on the altar wall. It was created in the 16th century and came to Atzhausen through a foundation in the 19th century. The gallery and the sacristy were added in 1787. On the south side wall is a wooden figure of an angel by the Würzburg artist Peter Müller from 1911. Instead of an organ, a harmonium was purchased. In 1995 the congregation donated a wooden cross on the eastern wall of the church.
