St. Konrad (Bergisch Gladbach)

St. Konrad is the parish church of the Catholic parish in Bergisch Gladbach-Hand . It bears the name of the patron saint, St. Brother Konrad .

The parish in Hand belongs together with the parishes Herz Jesu in Schildgen and St. Clemens in Paffrath to the parish association Bergisch Gladbach-West of the district dean of Rheinisch-Bergischer-Kreis.

The parish church is on the corner of Dellbrücker Strasse and An der Kittelburg.

history

From April 6, 1952 until the completion of St. Konrad, the current parish hall served the community as an emergency church .

The foundation stone of the Church of St. Konrad was laid on July 21, 1957. The consecration by Auxiliary Bishop Wilhelm Cleven was celebrated on November 8 and 9, 1958. With the construction of the parish church, the St. Konrad Parish Association has come together as a support group for the community.

The 50th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone was celebrated in 2007 with numerous thematic events and exhibitions as the “Konrad Year”. The festival year culminated on September 2, 2007 with the festival mass celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Heiner Koch .

Parish

Community life is shaped by a large number of active groups. These include the visiting service CBT -Wohnhaus Peter Landwehr, married couple group Equipe Notre Dame , one world group, women's group, Catholic women's community in Germany (KFD), Catholic young community (KJG), children's choir, youth choir, church choir, children's church district, acolytes , hospital visit service, openers -Family-Meeting (OFT), Pfarrcaritas, Romaniakreis, Seniorenkreis and the St. Sebastianus-Schützenbruderschaft .

Sponsoring community

Since 1997 the Catholic parish of the Holy Eucharist in the Romanian Ghimeş-Făget ( Transylvania ) has been the sponsor parish of St. Konrad.

architecture

Rose window

The architect of the church was Bernhard Rotterdam .

The gable and choir walls are made of natural rubble . There is a rose window in the gable wall above the entrance. In the choir there is a colorful, large Eucharistic window.

The baptistery has a window by the Bergisch Gladbach artist Wilhelm Opiéla .

Bells

The bell cage is provided with four bronze bells ( bell founder Hans Hüesker, Fa. Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock , Gescher / Westf.).

Interior

A late baroque Pietà and a modern sculpture of St. Brother Conrad enrich the interior of the church.

Outbuildings

The parish home adjoining St. Konrad has conference and group rooms as well as a library set up by the community.
