history
In 1820 the brothers Wilhelm and Louis Born founded a factory in Erfurt- Ilversgehofen that produced mustard, vinegar and other foods. The company remained until the 1970s family owned before the GDR - government nationalized was. It has been privately run again since 1990. In 2002 the listed Viennese food company Mautner Markhof sold its core business to the Unterhachingen company Develey Senf & Feinkost ; In addition to the Austrian mustard manufacturer Mautner Markhof Feinkost and the Upper Austrian vinegar manufacturer Pickfein, this included a 100% stake in Born Senf & Feinkost. Born is legally a limited liability company and operates completely independently in the market with its own sales and marketing. The administrative seat is in Erfurt. Born mustard was produced in Erfurt until 1993 and ketchup in Bad Langensalza on Dairy Street. In 1993 Bad Langensalza became the sole production location. The groundbreaking ceremony for a new production site in the Erfurter Kreuz industrial area between Erfurt and Arnstadt took place in 2016 .
Born has been running a mustard shop at Wenigemarkt 11 in Erfurt's old town since the 2010s, combined with a small mustard museum.
Products
In addition to various types of mustard, the company also produces ketchup , vinegar , horseradish cream , mayonnaise and various salad dressings and sauces. Mustard and ketchup have a high market share in Thuringia. All products are traded nationwide.
Typical of the mustard from this company is that it contains relatively little turmeric , which affects both the color and the taste.
