St. Lambertus (Neurath)
St. Lambertus is the Roman Catholic parish church of Neurath , a district of the city of Grevenbroich in the Rhine district of Neuss .
history
In 1253 the Cologne Teutonic Order Commander of St. Katharinen's possessions in Neurath were confirmed, in 1261 a document from Burchard, Herr zu Hackenbroich, names a priest belonging to the Teutonic Order House as clergyman of Neurath. The patronage of the church was later held by the Teutonic Order House in Gürath . At that time there was already a Romanesque church, of which the basement of the tower is still preserved, which is dated to the 12th century. In 1554 the church was extended in late Gothic style, during which the three-aisled nave was largely given its present shape. The late Gothic conversions show the alternation of tuff and brick bands typical for the region, such as St. Cosmas and Damian in Glesch or St. Martinus in Nettesheim . In 1743 the tower was raised, in 1904 the choir and sacristy were added.
Romanesque tower basement
The preserved Romanesque part of the tower is made of tuff stone. It is structured by vertical bars connected by ascending and descending round arch friezes. A frieze broken at right angles forms the end of the middle panel. There is a round arched portal on the west side.
