The Roman Catholic Church of St. Lambertus in Veghel , the Netherlands, is a large, three-nave, cross-shaped church in neo-Gothic style. Your design comes from Pierre Cuypers . The church was built between 1858 and 1862 and is an early highlight in Cuypers' work.

description

The current church was built to replace the existing church from the Middle Ages. During the Reformation , the medieval church fell into the hands of the Protestants, but was returned to the Catholic Church in 1819. As the building quickly became too small for the growing congregation, Cuypers was commissioned to design a new church, as well as an associated pastorate , a convent and a school . At the time, it was the largest contract Cuypers had ever received. The new church was built in the same place where a so-called Catholic barn church ( schuurkerk ) had previously been located. The old, medieval church was demolished in 1860.

The Church of St. Lambertus is the first church building in which Cuypers was inspired by the French Gothic of the 13th century. The church tower, for example, shows the influence of the cathedral in Chartres . The choir was equipped with a corridor and an accompanying chapel wreath. The interior was provided with cross-ribbed brick gables. This confirmed PJH Cuypers' reputation as an architect . Most of the furnishings in the church were made by the company Cuypers en Stoltzenberg from Roermond . In the 1960s, the polychrome fittings were removed.

organ

The organ was built around 1900 by the organ builder Franssen. The instrument has 31 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
