The Catholic parish church of St. Lambertus is a listed church building in Bedburg , a town in the Rhein-Erft district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The first parish church, already listed in the liber valoris of 1298, stood in the cemetery east of the town on the Erft . After the Augustinian monastery was founded in the village towards the end of the 13th century , it was incorporated into it between 1388 and 1414, which has also provided pastoral care for Bedburg since 1299. After 1414 a new parish church was built, dedicated to St. Lambert , which was closed in 1823 after the monastery church was taken over as a result of secularization (1802). When the monastery church no longer met the requirements, a new church was planned. The monastery church was demolished in 1892.

The neo-Gothic hall church of brick was from 1891 to 1894 according to plans by Julius Busch built (1838-1912) and received the Lambertus- patronage . Groin vaults were drawn into the hall and the aisles . The building was covered with slate . The steep west tower stands directly on the bank. After mining damage in 1975, a comprehensive static protection was carried out.
