St. Laurentius zu Lessenich

St. Laurentius is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Lessenich / Meßdorf district of Bonn . It stands for, including the rectory and farm buildings, as a monument under monument protection .

history

In 1131 there was a documentary confirmation that the tithe associated with the Lessenich church belonged to the Cassius monastery in Bonn . In 1385 the parish church was finally incorporated into the monastery. The core of today's church is a hall building from the 11th century, to which a north aisle and the choir tower with a barely protruding apse were added around 1200 . Around 1240 the southern aisle was added and a basilica was created . The south aisle was destroyed by the war in 1645 and not renewed when the church was restored. In the course of these measures, the midship was vaulted. From 1961 to 1965, the church was completely renovated according to plans by the Bonn architects Toni and Kurt Kleefisch, during which the southern aisle was reconstructed according to excavation findings, the Romanesque upper aisle of the nave was exposed and the baroque vault was removed.

organ

In 1995 the parish church received a new organ with 20 stops on two manuals and pedal. It is Opus 1733 of the Klais organ building workshop in Bonn .
