St. Lioba (Leingarten)
The Catholic Church of St. Lioba in Großgartach, a district of Leingarten in the Heilbronn district , was built in 1956/57.
history
After Großgartach, which merged with Schluchtern to form the community of Leingarten in 1970, was almost purely Protestant until the beginning of the 20th century, the number of Catholic residents gradually increased as the place changed to a workers' community in the early 20th century. When numerous Catholic expellees, refugees and evacuees settled in Großgartach after the Second World War , there were 450 Catholics in 1950, and 550 in 1954. The Großgartach Catholics were looked after by the Schluchtern Catholic rectory until 1957, then by the Catholic rectory until 1971 Kirchhausen . The services took place after 1945 in the Protestant Lorenzkirche .
After 1950 there were numerous events to collect funds for a new church. A significant donation also came from the Association of Catholic German Teachers . The Catholic community was soon able to acquire an inexpensive building plot on the Rosenberger . There the foundation stone of the church took place on May 23, 1956 in the presence of 200 Catholic teachers . The bells were consecrated on June 2, 1957, and the church on June 16, 1957. With the patronage of the Lioba von Tauberbischofsheim , who had taken care of the theological education of young girls, reference was made to the generous donation of the teachers' association. The community center, which was later built next to the church, was inaugurated in 1992.
The parish of St. Lioba belonged to the Archdiocese of Freiburg until 1971 and came to the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart in 1970 after the union of Großgartach and Schluchtern to form the new community of Leingarten . The Catholic parishes of the suburbs Großgartach and Schluchtern joined the Catholic parish of St. Pankratius-St. Lioba Leingarten united.
