Sankt Lorenzen in the Gitschtal
Sankt Lorenzen im Gitschtal is a village and a cadastral municipality of the municipality of Gitschtal in Carinthia . In 1973 the previously independent municipality was combined with Weißbriach to form the municipality of Gitschtal.
The village is located on the north side of the Gitschtal at the foot of the Großboden ( 1806 m ), a branch of the Spitzegel group . In 1756 a mission station was founded and in 1770 a mission house was built next to the parish church of St. Lorenzen in Gitschtal . In the "Directory of Summer Places to Stay in Carinthia" from 1887, which documents the beginnings of tourism, the place is described with good air, pretty waterfalls and viewpoints, walking paths, a tuff grotto in Jadersdorf, good inns and private quarters.
The Worschsiedlung is located on Weißensee Straße (B 87) and a small holiday village is located in the east outside the village in the direction of Jadersdorf . The protected Mühl Schuss waterfall and other waterfalls are located above the village.
